Talent Show Flyer

Picture

Design

For this exhibit, I decided to make a flyer for a hypothetical talent show that was being held this month.

Contrast: I made the flyer black and chose this concert image so that the lights and colors of the image could contrast with the black of the audience silhouettes and the rest of the flyer. I also made half of the flyer black to make the text stand out and made the main text bright orange and a different font to contrast with the blue text.

Repetition:
I made the text orange and blue to match the orange and blue colors in the concert image and found black silhouette images to match the flyer and the audience background color. I also found images of a piano, a microphone and a dancer to connect them to the talent show's advertisement below, which is "Music, Singing...Dancing...and More!"

Alignment:
I made the text and images center aligned so that all of the elements of the flyer (text and images) would form a funnel (widened along the top and narrowed at the bottom). I also placed the Piano, Dancing Figure and Microphone images along the top-half of the flyer to make it as if the concert lights are shining on them.

Proximity:
I grouped the talent show advertisement text together with the date and time while grouping where the event would be held in its separate group below. I grouped the "Talent Show Friday Night" text with the date and time to inform which Friday night it would be held.

Color:
I chose black, orange and blue for my colors to match the concert image for the background. I made the flyer black so that the orange and blue text would stand out the most, as well as blend in with the shadows of the audience in the concert image above. I chose orange for the announcement because of how it could stand out compared to the blue color.

Font Choice: I chose the Bauhaus 93 font for the orange text and the Ariel Rounded MT Bold font for the blue text.

Photoshop

First, I made a letter-size file on Photoshop (11x8.5). Then, I found a concert image on Pixabay that that looked ideal, as well as a few other images of a piano, a microphone and a dancer to show some examples of what the talent show would have. I put the smaller images in the area where the lights in the concert image would shine to make them stand out, and added a black rectangular shape to cover the bottom-half of the flyer. Afterwords, I added orange text for the main title of the flyer and smaller blue text for the rest of the information.
