Google Maps Flyer

Picture

Design

For this exhibit, I made an advertisement flyer for the Google Maps phone app.

Contrast: For contrast, I made the background blurry and the girl in the foreground clear and sharp-looking using Adobe Photoshop. I also had the Google Maps icon and the text next to it stand out from the rest of the flyer, as that is the focus of the advertisement.

Repetition: For repetition, I matched the color of the overhead text with the color of the girl's jacket and the highlights of her backpack and hat to make that connection between the girl and what the text is saying. I also made the smaller text white to match the white in the Google Maps' icon next to it.

Alignment: For alignment, I placed the girl on the left side of the flyer and placed the text and the Google Maps icon and caption on the right side so that the girl is looking towards the icon. I also made the text and the Google Maps icon left-aligned so that the girl in the flyer would be looking towards the right at the text and the icon.

Proximity: For proximity, I grouped the Google Maps icon and its caption next to each other separate from the girl and the text above.

Font Choice: Consolas Regular (brown font) and (white font) Rockwell Regular

Photoshop

First, I went into Photoshop and opened up an image I found on Pixabay that contained a person in the foreground and isolated her out of the image using the Quick Selection tool. Then, I found a City at Night image on Pixels.com and used Motion Blur on it using Photoshop. I placed it as the background and the girl as the foreground. I also had to use the Spot Healing tool to get rid of the bright orange on girl's shoulder and then created a Hue and Saturation adjustment layer to make her colors darker and less saturated. For the background, I added both a Curves adjustment layer and a Levels adjustment layer to make it darker and add a bluish hue to the atmosphere. I then found an image of the Google Maps app icon, got rid of the text next to it and placed it next to the girl in the flyer. After adding the text (both over the top and next to the Google Maps icon), I added a Brightness and Contrast adjustment layer to the icon so that the colors wouldn't stand out to the point that they would distract the viewer but would still stand out from the rest of the flyer.
